Reality Check

So I wrapped up week 3 of marathon training today. Up until this point I've had a few moments of insanity where i thought "wow, this is going really well! how wonderful! 26.2 miles...PIECE of cake." Well, today...on my 10-mile run...I definitely got a reality check. First of all, I'm not running a flat marathon for nothing...flat is good. The course we ran today was really hilly...not a lot of time to recover and mile 6 was pretty much scaling the side of suburban mountain. EEK. I lost my running partner at mile 5...i stopped to go to the potty and she ran ahead. I followed after and realized she didn't turn around at the 10-mile turnaround marker (needless to say, it wasn't well marked). She also missed mile 11 turnaround and ended up at the 12-mile turnaround aid station...oops. I waited for a few to see if she'd come back but alas, I was up to the final 5 miles on my own. After the mile 6 uphill my muscles got really tight and so the final four miles were pretty miserable...oh well...I went 10 miles darnit, even though I almost had to crawl to the finish.

So I get it. Marathon training is hard. This week is a "recovery" week which is good because I'm off to Vegas on Wednesday so the plan is to run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning and try to get in a decent distance workout on Sunday when i get back, although I'm sure that is very wishful thinking...

Happy weekend...Happy end of Q2 and most importantly...Happy "Brea goes on vacation in three days!"
