In less than a year...

We'll be electing our next President. In honor of this important landmark of time...I'm going to officially begin blogging (instead of my not-so-subtle veiled references) about my support for Senator Barack Obama. I think he is the change this country needs...and boy does this country need change. I've done my research and made my decision...and I don't consider myself a democrat...after the caucus I'll go back to being "unafilliated" and making my voting decisions on a case by case basis!

I'm serving as a Precinct Captain (precinct number 512 baby! That's Austin's area code!) that is charged with contacting all registered democrats and registered Obama supporters and getting them out to the Colorado Caucus on February 5th so that Barack Obama can win my precinct. My precinct is about 6 blocks long and 3 blocks wide. I'm excited to take on this challenge in my first-ever involvement in a political campaign. (Just remember if you want to participate in the Feb. 5th caucus you need to be a registered democrat by December 5). The caucus system is BUNK people, but in this "democracy" its what we have to work with here in Colorado. Sure, the national election is in November, but you have to help out your candidate now for them even to be on the ballot.

I'll keep you posted on my political adventures...who knows, I could go from precinct captain to county delegate to state delegate to national convention delegate...and that would be cool to stand on the floor of the Pepsi Center and nominate Barack Obama to be the democratic candidate to run for President of the United States!

It should be noted that if Hillary Clinton gets the nomination, I'll be sure to campaign AGAINST her. Also, I hope in the next year we figure out how to handle this whole "voting" thing...I think they should outsource it to apple or google...they'd figure it out. I don't even want to get started on the great voting debaucle of 2006 in which I spent a good 5 hours in line in a hallway at the highlands ranch recreation center.
