Jolea and I had a great time in Mexico! After almost missing the plane thanks to 12 minutes to run to a different terminal in DFDubs, we arrived in Mexico and got to our hotel with no problem! Leaving the airport in Puerto Vallarta was a bit crazy because everyone is hounding you to give you a ride...good thing our handy dandy expedia friends were there waiting for us.
The RIU Jalisco is beautiful! I definitely recommend it. Our room had an ocean view and 4 bottles of liquor and a stocked mini-fridge. Sweet! Our efforts to find food were fruitless on Friday night so our three quick margaritas helped me sleep really well. wink wink.
On Saturday we headed out pretty early for our canopy tour adventure. It was amazing! We drive through Puerto Vallarta in the back of a 10 passenger van with about 15 people in it...you could hold your seat belt in your hand because it wasn't attached to anything. We stopped at a market on the side of the road on the way up and saw a whale way off in the distance, so that was a nice bonus. Our fellow canopy tour riders were very fun. Once we found ourselves at Los Veranos we met a cast of characters known as our "guides." Since Jo and I were the young fun ones on the trip, we got the VIP canopy tour. We went down backwards in tandem with some of the guides...it was crazy fun! Some of the cables were 400+ meters long across a river gorge...it was really beautiful. I only got "stuck" once...meaning I didn't make it to the platform. Jolea also got stuck but also rammed into the girl that went in front of her...good times! After we made it down the mountains we enjoyed some margaritas, tacos and a trip to the monkey cage. We made it back to our hotel thanks to our good buddy Raul and took a snooze by the pool and then ate dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse where they liked to set food on fire. I tried Boar. It was gross.
Sunday was spent at the beach. It was very relaxing. We both got little pockets of sunburn but considering how white we were to begin with we did pretty good! We got lots of rest and reading done and enjoyed a delicious Mexican food buffet for dinner and a quick round of dancing that evening.
The trip home on Monday was pretty interesting, as we got to witness pilot stall tactics so that they could kick three people off the plane for being "rude" to the crew.
I recommend a February trip to Mexico for everyone! Jolea is the best travel partner and I think this trip was just what the doctor ordered. Check out the photos (here are Jolea's photos) for a full play by play! After a weekend of 80 degrees I'm off to prepare for the snowstorm moving in tonight...If I had a spare million around I'd buy a place in Mexico.
