Had a pretty chill holiday with the fam, since we all felt like we'd "been there, done that" after our Thanksmas week with the Lemmings. I was utterly delighted with the gift from my parents, which was money for my trip to Italy. I'd been joking that I wanted "cold, hard euros" for Christmas, and who knew they had it in 'em, but they snuck around the airport when we were there to get the Lemmings and gave me 30 euros (which is about $42 for those of you concerned with exchange rates) that will surely purchase my first glass of vino when I arrive in Venice. I also got my traditional Longhorn ornament, a UT coffee table book and a reversible Texas vest that will look mighty fine at the Fiesta Bowl a week from today. What would I do for gifts without my Longhorns? We had Christmas Eve dinner at Outback (I ate too much) and then went to a movie on Christmas day and dined on ham and twice-baked potatoes. We saw Marly and Me, and not a dry eye is left in the theatre at the end of that movie so if you plan to see it (and I highly suggest you do), bring a BOX of kleenex.
I had an interesting night out in Cheyenne on Friday night, one that involved me singing karaoke with the husbands, good friends, random friends, old friends and a trip to the Outlaw, the only place in America that still lets you smoke. You almost forget how "awesome" it is to come home after a night out smelling like crap. I also got to meet JW2's new puppy (until they give it to grandma), Tuffy. He is a pretty cute little furball, although I think my BFF Kift got a little jealous when Auntie Mimi shared her love with the new baby.
The drive home on Saturday was unlike any other. The wind was gusting at about 80 mph between Cheyenne and the border, and I literally saw SEVEN semis that had been blown over. A few others had smartly exited the street at Terry Bison Ranch to wait it out...I white knuckled it though and made it home in one piece. As was told to me on Facebook: Good thing the Prius is aerodynamic.
Today marks the official start of the moab half marathon training. These things always sound like a good idea until you have to get out there and do something about it...
