Bye Bye Kevers

I went to the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four in 2003, and the trip will forever live in Brea legend as the most amazing college road trip ever. Let's just say, if you haven't heard the details, it was New Orleans and back in $36 and 36 hours or less, that included a photo with TJ Lover (TJ Ford) on Bourbon Street at approximately 4am...priceless. I mean, we lost the game (darn that Carmelo Anthony!), but it was awesome.

The reason we will never go to the Final Four again? We keep recruiting AMAZING players out of high school...so amazing they only go to college because the NCAA mandates they do so for a year before becoming draft eligible. Therefore, we always have a young team highlighted by a superstar who declares himself NBA-bound after one season. So long, Kevin Durant.

An open letter to Rick Barnes, men's basketball coach

Dear Mr. Barnes,

Thank you for being such an amazing coach of the Texas Longhorns basketball team. Thanks for taking pages from the Mack Brown "recruiting playbook" and recruiting amazing players to come to THE UNIVERSITY. However, I encourage you to make a new plan of attack so that you can recruit a team of unselfish players, perhaps even without a superstar, who can work together and hopefully in the next few years head back to the Final Four so that others can have the amazing memories I did back in 2003. (Did I mention that at this game I had the best seats--four rows IN FRONT of Jenna Bush, daughter of POTUS).

I appreciate your consideration of this request. Hook 'em!

PS - I still haven't forgiven you for not flashing the large Texas crowd the "Hook 'em" following your win over CU in Boulder in January. That was just rude.

Another PS, not for the letter to Rick Barnes, but for the post: Larry Burkhead is the father of Anna Nicole's baby...perhaps we can move on now, America, perhaps we can move on.
