Hokies. In Memory.

The tragedy that took place this week at Virginia Tech is one of the scariest things you can imagine happening. While I was in college I felt invincible and safe within the confines of both my dorm (lived there all four years) and the walls of a classroom.

Arising from the sadness and chaos, however, are stories of heroism.

One that really strikes home is the story of RA Ryan Clark who was gunned down in the dorm after what I imagine was his checking in on his residents if he heard a disturbance. I was an RA for 3 years at The University of Texas and the first thing I always did when I heard commotion was check it out. Never once do you think about that you could be walking into a dangerous situation, as in my case, it was almost always the football team wrestling in the hallways or something.

The other is the story of holocaust survivor Liviu Librescu who was killed while using his body as a shield to protect his students--killed on holocaust rememberence day.

While the level of sadness of this tragedy is beyond measure--there are many stories of both survivors and victims who rose up in courage in face of fear. They should serve as inspiration for everyone.
