Sub-Zero Loco

On Sunday, I ran the Jingle Bell 5k with Shannon and Nicky. Wouldn't normally be a momentous occasion, except for the fact that Colorado is currently playing host to an arctic blast and my car read an amazing 1 degree when driving over...with a wind chill between 10 and 20 degrees below zero. Yeah, nutso, but I made the commitment the night before once I found out that me and Nicky "won the lottery" to run in the Canyonlands Half Marathon in Moab in March, so this was the first training run.

Shannon, Me and Nicky

Needless to say, these conditions didn't bring out the best in me, especially considering I could be in better shape (good thing I have 15 weeks until the half). Shannon, who is training for an Ironman, and Nicky did much better than I did...I was a little cranky and didn't quite appreciate Shannon's good cheerleading (sorry, Shannon)! Anyway, we finished and in the end I was glad I did it, but boy, I hope I never have to do something like that again. I did get to run in my Texas Santa hat though, so that was fun. Oh, and we got to wear jingle bells on our shoes, which is always a plus in my book.

Here's to a renewed sense of purpose on the running front...Moab here I come!
